Field trip to Lens

Our colleagues – who are working on the New National Gallery of Hungary project as co-designers – travelled to North-France on the 25th of April to visit the Louvre-Lens Museum along with the client, the electrical designer ibSchwarz, the climate engineer Transsolar and the cost analyst Spányi Partners.

The building complex was designed by the Japanese SANAA and the New York-based Imrey Culbert and was opened for the public in 2012.

The structures of the museum are delicate. The hall is rich in reflections and has a lot of transparent surfaces.

Vivid floor-mosaics can be seen in the entrance area of the Auditorium, which is permanent comission artwork by artist Yayoi Kusama:

The Time Gallery (“La Galerie du Temps”) is the permanent exhibition of Louvre-Lens. It exhibits the artifacts and works of art in chronological order.

The rooms for the temporary exhibitons were under construction for a new collection:

The spectacular storage on the -1 floor is interactive: the stored items are also displayed on a touchscreen and can be selected to gain further informations of them.

It is apparent that the façade shows a slightly arched pattern.

The garden was designed by Mosbach Paysagistes.

During this 2-day-long trip, we gained precious impressions which can be inspiring during our mutual work with the other teams on the Liget Project.
